Malta 2 Euro 2009 - 10 Years of EU Monetary Policy UNC

The coin depicts a stick figure that transitions into the euro symbol. The meaning of the message is that the single currency and, accordingly, the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) are the final step in the long history of Europe's trade and economic integration. The coin was issued by all eurozone countries and bears the name of the country (missing in this image) and the text "EMU 1999-2009" in the respective language(s). The design was chosen from five projects shortlisted in a preliminary selection by the public across the European Union through an online vote. The project is the work of Georgios Stamatopoulos, a sculptor from the coin department of the central bank of Greece. The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
