Thirty years ago the Berlin Wall fell. Besides its impact on German society, this event had global consequences. On November 9, 1989, it marked the end of the Cold War and the beginning of reconciliation after several decades of international tension. At the European level, it was the first step towards the unification of one of the leading states in the European Union. This important change was later reflected in the Moscow Treaty, to which France is a party. Within just one year, the European Union welcomed 16 million new citizens, which had almost the same structural and economic impact as the accession of a new state. The coin depicts the Berlin Wall, open in the middle, from which doves (an allegory of international reconciliation) fly out and a jubilant crowd passes through. In the background is the Brandenburg Gate – the most famous symbol of Berlin. On one side of the wall is inscribed "30 Jahre Mauerfall" – 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. At the bottom of the image is inscribed the year of issue "2019", and to its right is the designation of the issuing state "D". The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
