France 2 Euro 2018 - The Bleuet de France

For 100 years now, the cornflower (Bleuet de France) has been the flower of remembrance and solidarity in France. It originated as a means of providing assistance to wounded veterans of the First World War, but was soon adopted by the entire French nation as a symbol of gratitude for the sacrifice of soldiers who defended their country and ideals.
Today, the Bleuet de France continues its traditional mission of moral and financial support for veterans and victims of past and present wars, as well as victims of terrorism.
The cornflower also contributes to passing on ethical norms and values such as respect, peace, and tolerance to the younger generation. The flower of remembrance pays tribute to all who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom.
The cornflower occupies the central part of the design. Around it is the inscription "Le Bleuet de France, fleur de mémoire et de solidarité" (the cornflower of France, flower of memory and solidarity). The dates "1918–2018", the abbreviation "RF" denoting République Française (French Republic), and the mint marks are also included in the design.
The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
