The image includes an equal-sided cross as an internationally recognised symbol of medical aid, hope and humanity. On each side is inscribed one of the four blood groups: A, B, 0 and AB. Inside the cross are two other equal-sided crosses, one within the other, with a drop of blood at the centre of this image. Around the central cross are evenly spaced lower parts of eight test tubes, each containing an inlaid stylised drop of blood. Between the test tubes are relief drops of blood. To the right of the lower test tube are the stylised initials “MP” of the designer of the national side, Mária Poldaufová; to the left is the Kremnica Mint mark (Mincovňa Kremnica), consisting of the letters “MK” between two dies. Around most of the edge of the inner circle of the coin is the inscription “PRVÁ TRANSFÚZIA KRVI 1923 – 2023” (“first blood transfusion”). Along the lower part of the edge is the name of the issuing country “SLOVENSKO” with a dot on either side separating it from the inscription. The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
